NAD+ in brief
- NAD+ is a coenzyme found in all living cells
- NAD+ plays an important role in energy production in cells and DNA repair
- NAD+ decreases as we age (30-35 years)
Positive effects of NAD+
The following is an overview of the scientifically proven positive effects of NAD+ supplementation:
- Supports cellular energy and cellular repair
- Has a rejuvenating effect on the skin
- Supports the nervous system
- Helps break down carbohydrates, fats and proteins
- Supports proper digestion and absorption of nutrients
- Reduces free radical damage in the body
NAD+ against aging
As we age, NAD+ in our bodies decreases, contributing not only to skin aging but also to age-related diseases and a decrease in overall vitality. In 2017, scientific research¹ showed that NAD+ is involved in processes that affect aging and longevity. The study found that the decrease in regenerative capacity in DNA repair is related to the decrease in NAD+.

Who is NAD+ suitable for?
There is no set minimum age, but NAD+ supplementation is mainly considered from the age of 30-35 years, as NAD+ begins to decline from that point. Young people with an active lifestyle, healthy diet and adequate sleep still have sufficient NAD+.
People under 30 years of age may well consider NAD+ supplementation in:
- Chronic stress or burnout
- Intensive sports practice (e.g., elite athletes)
- Recovery from illness or surgery
- Cognitive or metabolic problems
Contraindications and possible side effects
NAD+ supplements are considered safe, but some side effects and contraindications have been reported:
Possible side effects:
- Mild upset stomach (especially with high doses)
- Headache or dizziness (rarely reported)
- Possible effect on sleep (some people report increased alertness, so taking it in the morning is recommended)
Possible contraindications:
- Since NAD+ is involved in cell growth and DNA repair, there is a theoretical risk that NAD+ supplementation could promote cancer cell growth. People with an active or history of cancer should exercise caution and consult with a physician.
- NAD+ supplements can dilate blood vessels, which can lead to a slight drop in blood pressure. People with hypotension should monitor this.
- NAD+ can affect insulin sensitivity; therefore, diabetics should monitor their blood sugar levels when using it.
