Does eyelid surgery really make you happier? This is what research says
Research has been done on the quality of life after eyelid surgery. The outcome of the study does not surprise us. After all, upper eyelid surgery is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures that not only provides aesthetic benefit, but can also provide functional improvement.
In this article, we describe the main findings of the study¹ and let our clients talk about those who have undergone eyelid surgery. And we can tell you in advance that the study confirms what we already knew, you do indeed become happier with eyelid surgery.
What does the survey say about happiness after eyelid surgery?
Although the aesthetic benefits of this procedure are well known, the Comprehensive Evaluation of Quality of Life following Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty: A Prospective Analysis study focused specifically on the impact of the procedure on patients’ psychological well-being.
The study followed 348 patients aged 49 to 87 years before and after their eyelid surgery. The goal was to measure not only cosmetic results, but also patient satisfaction and the impact on quality of life after their eyelid surgery.
The researchers used FACE-Q² for this purpose. This is a specially developed questionnaire that helps measure patients’ experiences, emotional impact and satisfaction after cosmetic treatments. This science-based measurement tool is used worldwide to better understand how people experience their appearance, well-being and the results of treatment. In this case, the FACE-Q questionnaire was used to evaluate the following factors:
-
- Expectations and satisfaction with the eyes and entire face.
- Psychological and social functioning after surgery.
- Possible side effects and recovery after eyelid surgery.
Survey results
The results of the study were promising and confirm the positive impact of eyelid surgery:
Significant improvement in satisfaction
Patients reported a significant improvement in how satisfied they were with their eyes and their appearance after surgery. This effect was long-lasting and remained visible even months after surgery.
Positive impact on psychosocial well-being
After surgery, patients felt more confident and experienced less social insecurity. This confirms that cosmetic surgery not only improves appearance, but can also have a more profound psychological effect.
