Is treatment suitable for all types of migraines?

Not all types of migraines are suitable for treatment with botulinum toxin. Treatment with botulinum toxin is especially suitable for people with muscle tension headaches.

Tightening facial muscles such as the frown muscle in bright sunlight, being focused, stress and computer work can induce headaches.

By treating the frown muscle with botulinum toxin, the muscle gets more relaxation which can reduce the symptoms. In addition to decreasing the number of attacks, they also become less severe.

Does the treatment change anything about the shape of my face?

The shape of the face does not change after headache/migraine treatment with botulinum toxin.

How long do I notice the effects of the treatment?

The duration of effect varies from person to person. On average, the effect lasts about 4 months and can extend to 6 months. In addition, the duration of effect becomes longer when botulinum toxin is treated more frequently.

When you notice the botulinum toxin starting to wear off, it is a good idea to make another appointment immediately.

Are there any risks associated with the treatment?

Botulinum toxin is a very safe drug and has been used in cosmetics since 1989. Despite being a safe drug, as with any drug, possible side effects exist.

Side effects in the case of botulinum toxin treatment may include; very small bleeding at the injection site (the size of a pinhead), some local redness or swelling of the skin and a small blue spot at the injection site.

The side effects disappear over the course of the day, and in the case of a bruise, it will be barely visible after a few days.

Can I combine the treatment with a wrinkle treatment?

This is certainly possible. The migraine/headache treatment takes the frown right away. So this is an added benefit to the treatment.

Constant frowning can cause not only muscle tension headaches but also frown lines. These are pressed deeper and deeper into the skin every day. Treatment flattens a nascent wrinkle and will not worsen over the years.

A deeper wrinkle is also temporarily immobilized with botulinum toxin so it will not deepen. The wrinkle will slowly wear away and in some cases a supplementary treatment with hyaluronic acid filler is recommended.

The treatment can also be combined with other wrinkle treatments.
