Teeth grinding, also known as bruxism, is a common problem found in both men and women. Grinding can lead to a range of health problems, including headaches, jaw pain, tooth damage and sleep disturbances. This is why many dentists refer their patients to Ivy clinics. After all, with a little Botox, these problems are simple to fix.
In treating bruxism, we inject Botox into the masseter muscles, which are located on the side of the jaw and are responsible for teeth grinding. By weakening these muscles with Botox, the force with which they can contract decreases. Grinding thus becomes less and may even disappear altogether. This also reduces symptoms such as headaches.
Botox is a neurotoxin that has been used in medicine for decades for a variety of purposes, including treating both medical and cosmetic indications, such as spasms, excessive sweating, cosmetic wrinkle reduction and teeth grinding. Botox works by blocking signals from nerves to muscles, temporarily reducing muscle tension.

Treatment by highly experienced doctors
Clinics in four citiesTogether with the doctor you will discuss during the intake interview whether injecting botox is the right solution for your symptoms. If it is, the options and how the treatment will be performed will be discussed.
The doctor will brief you on the pros and cons of the treatment and inform you about possible side effects.
During the consultation, there is of course plenty of room to ask the doctor your questions. You can also record the conversation with your phone so that you can listen back to it at a later time.
A consultation at Ivy clinics is always without obligation. The consultation in no way obliges you to undergo treatment.
The administration of the Botox injections is done while you are lying in the treatment chair. The doctor will first disinfect the skin and then ask you to tighten the jaw muscles to determine the points of injection.
The botox is then injected into the masseter muscle through a series of injections.
Botox injections are not considered very painful. We use very thin needles to inject the liquid.
The treatment takes about 10 minutes.
After treatment, you may go home immediately. As with all other indications treated with Botox, we advise against sports, sauna visits and sun (couch) in the first 24 hours. Try not to lie on one side for the first few hours after the procedure. This could theoretically cause spread of the product.
The botox does not work immediately. The effect will be gradually noticeable after 3 to 7 days and is optimal after two weeks. Because the jaw muscle is a large muscle, the effect on teeth grinding may take longer, about 6 weeks. This is because the muscle must first shrink a bit, decrease in strength as it were.
Our cosmetic doctors are trained to work with injectables such as Botox and have extensive experience.
Normal symptoms to consider after treatment are bruising or swelling at the injection site. You may also experience mild headaches after the treatment. Some people report having to get used to the feeling of relaxed jaw muscles for a while after treatment for teeth grinding. This gets used to quickly.
In rare cases, patients may have difficulty chewing or experience the sensation of stiffness in the jaw.
Botox is a drug and side effects have been reported. However, side effects are rare. The doctor will discuss this with you during the consultation.
The results of a Botox treatment for teeth grinding last about four to six months. Repeating the treatment is then necessary to maintain the effect.
