The nasolabial fold or “nasolabial folds” run from the nose to next to the corners of the mouth. During the aging process, bone tissue decreases somewhat, subcutaneous (fat) tissues shift, and the skin weakens. These three factors, under the influence of gravity, cause the face to change from a youthful V-shape over time to an inverted V. Thus, among other things, the eyebrows sag slightly, the eyelids and the cheeks. Fortunately, thanks to the ligaments (the connection between bone, skin and attachment muscles) in the face, the face remains in good shape, but deeper wrinkles may appear. The nose-lip fold is one of the most prominent wrinkle or crease that can develop. The nose-lip fold is well treatable with a filler.
At Ivy clinics, we strive for natural results. Thus, our doctors take natural beauty as a starting point and will never “over-treat. When treating the nasolabial fold, we use hyaluronic acid fillers in most cases. This is because with a filler, we can properly correct the loss of volume, making the wrinkle less deep. In the case of the nose-lip fold, it can sometimes be nice to correct the loss of volume higher up in the face, rather than just locally in the nose-lip fold, in order to elevator the skin. Sometimes a combination with a skin-enhancing treatment gives even better results.

Treatment by highly experienced doctors
Clinics in four citiesDuring the consultation, the cosmetic doctor will inform you about nasolabial fold treatment, results and possible complications. We believe it is important that you can make an informed decision and are therefore transparent about all the pros and cons of cosmetic treatment. We offer you plenty of space to discuss your wishes and ask us questions. The cosmetic doctor will make an analysis of your face and suggest an appropriate treatment plan. You are in no way obligated to proceed to treatment. Should you wish to undergo treatment, you can also schedule an appointment for treatment at a later time.
The treatment is performed by the cosmetic doctor with whom you had the consultation. Prior to the treatment, the doctor goes over the treatment plan with you one more time. The skin of the face is cleaned (makeup removed) and disinfected. It is usually not necessary to numb the nasolabial fold beforehand. The filler is injected through a normal syringe or cannula (blunt, hollow needle). The product itself often contains anesthetic (lidocaine), making the treatment virtually painless. You may, however, feel some pressure during the treatment.
A filler treatment of the nasolabial fold is a treatment that does not require aftercare. However, it is smart to take it easy for the rest of the day; do not exercise and keep the head higher than the rest of the body to avoid pressure on the treated area. Pressure can make any swelling worse. In the days following treatment, avoid direct sunlight, tanning beds and sauna. The cosmetic doctor will advise you after further about the best aftercare after nose-lip fold treatment.
In general, treatment with fillers is safe. Nevertheless, it is important to know that no cosmetic treatment is without risk of complication. During the consultation, the cosmetic doctor will tell you in detail about the possible complications. Normal side effects of filler treatment of the nasolabial fold are temporary swelling and bruising. Atypical reactions to filler treatments are also reported, but are exceptional.
