Aging, heredity and losing a lot of weight can cause permanent dark circles and hollowing of the tear ducts. The tear duct is characterized by the hollowness that runs from the inner corner of the eye toward the cheek. Sometimes the hollowness extends across the cheek. The shadow created by the hollowness in the tear ducts makes you look tired quickly. At Ivy clinics, we treat the tear ducts with a hyaluronic acid filler. This is a particularly rewarding cosmetic treatment because of its great effect. In some cases, a lower eyelid correction is a better choice, in which case we ask our doctors who perform lower eyelid corrections.
At Ivy clinics, our cosmetic doctors treat with the goal of achieving beautiful, natural results. When treating tear ducts, we use hyaluronic acid fillers in most cases. This is because with a filler, we can properly correct the loss of volume in the tear duct. Sometimes a combination with a skin improving treatment like the PlexR Soft Surgery gives an even better result.

Treatment by highly experienced doctors
Clinics in four citiesDuring the consultation, the cosmetic doctor will inform you about tear duct filler treatment, results and possible complications. We find it important that you can make an informed decision and are therefore transparent about all pros and cons of cosmetic treatment. We offer you plenty of space to discuss your wishes and ask us questions. The cosmetic doctor will make an analysis of your face and suggest an appropriate treatment plan. You are in no way obligated to proceed to treatment. Should you wish to undergo treatment, you can also schedule an appointment for treatment at a later time.
The treatment of a filler at the tear ducts is performed by the cosmetic doctor with whom you had the consultation. Prior to treatment, the doctor will go over the treatment plan with you again. The skin of the face is cleaned (makeup removed) and disinfected. Prior anesthesia of the tear ducts is usually not necessary. The filler is injected through a normal injection needle or a cannula (blunt, hollow needle). The product itself often contains anesthetic (lidocaine), making the treatment virtually painless. You may, however, feel some pressure during the treatment.
A filler treatment of the tear ducts is a treatment that does not require aftercare. However, it is smart to take it easy for the rest of the day; do not exercise and keep the head higher than the rest of the body to avoid pressure on the treated area. Pressure can make any swelling worse. In the days following treatment, avoid direct sunlight, tanning beds and sauna. The cosmetic doctor will further advise you on the best aftercare after tear duct treatment.
In general, treatment with fillers is safe. However, it is important to know that no cosmetic treatment is without risk of complications. During the consultation, the cosmetic doctor will tell you in detail about the possible complications.
Normal side effects of filler treatment of the tear ducts are temporary swelling and bruising. Atypical reactions to filler treatments are also reported, but are exceptional. With filler treatment of the tear ducts specifically, excess hyaluronic acid can cause fluid accumulation under the eyes. Of course, we try to prevent this by treating in that area with caution and precision.
