Peeling

A peel is a widely used treatment to address facial skin conditions and aging. A chemical peel, also called a TCA peel or fruit acid peel, has different concentrations and active ingredients specifically designed to target certain problems.

One peaks your skin without down time and is considered the ideal lunchtime treatment and the other comes in spa form. It is possible to combine the peel with a laser treatment for the most optimal, long-lasting results.

Which peel is most suitable for your skin and best fits your schedule, our skin therapist will be happy to explain.

Peelings are used for:

  • Acne and pimples
  • Acne scars
  • Coarse pores
  • Skin aging
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Rosacea (when inflammation is under control)

The treatment step by step

During a completely non-binding intake interview, the specialist assesses which peel is best for you.

The skin specialist then discusses the options and answers any questions that may have arisen surrounding the peel.

You can then decide whether you would like to have the treatment performed.

With the highly concentrated peels, such as those from ZO Skin Health and ZO Medical, it is important that the skin is free of inflammation and sensitivities such as acne and rosacea.

The skin may also need to be prepared to achieve optimal moisture balance or stabilize pigment cells. Finally, the skin should contain as little sebum as possible. Whether this applies to your skin, the skin therapist will be happy to explain.

There are some situations in which we do not treat with a peel. These are in the case of:

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • Hypersensitivity to salicylates
  • Irritated or sun-damaged skin
  • An outbreak of herpes
  • Undergoing radio or chemotherapy
  • Lupus or another autoimmune disease

The more concentrated peels should only be applied by a specially trained physician or skin therapist. To monitor whether the skin is responding well to the treatment, regular check-ups are done by phone or at the clinic.

With some peels, further treatment of the skin at home is recommended. When doing so, follow the step-by-step plan with the products given to you by the skin therapist.

Situations where we do not apply a chemical peel:

  • During pregnancy/breastfeeding
  • In case of hypersensitivity to salicylates
  • For irritated, sunburned skin
  • In case of active herpes (outbreak)
  • When you undergo radiotherapy or chemotherapy
  • When you have lupus or another autoimmune disease

The deeper cleansing peels remove layers of the skin. This can cause the following reactions:

  • Flaking and redness
  • Tight feeling skin(first 4 days)
  • Scabs

For the first few weeks, it is advisable not to sunbathe unprotected. Always use a high SPF.
