PlexR treatment

The PlexR is a device where you can lift/tighten the skin without cutting and injecting. PlexR works on the basis of plasma, also called ionized gas molecules. The device does not touch the skin but is held just slightly above it.

The difference in charge creates a plasma jet on the skin causing the top layer of the skin to evaporate. This evaporation will cause the elastin fibers in the skin to contract causing a tightening of the skin.

This is the immediate result but the PlexR also provides biostimulation in the deeper skin layers resulting in production of new collagen. This takes several months before it is visible.

PlexR is good for many areas such as upper lip, lower eyelids, upper eyelids, crow’s feet etc.

As mentioned above, the PlexR uses plasma. This involves tightening the skin but does not remove any skin.

So PlexR is very nice treatment for an eye elevator when there is minimal excess skin. In these cases, a surgical eyelid correction is not yet necessary.

Surgical eyelid surgery involves cutting away skin/fat. This is necessary when there is excess skin.

Optionally, the PlexR can also be used consecutively to a surgical eyelid correction for optimal results.

The PlexR treatment is not completely painless. Prior to treatment, you will be given a strong anesthetic cream and left to soak in for 30 minutes under a foil. This allows the anesthetic to soak in better.

The anesthetic cream already takes away some of the sensation. Also, how you experience the treatment varies greatly from person to person.

Unfortunately, the effects of a PlexR treatment is not forever. Factors such as natural aging and additional lifestyle factors will cause it to slowly sag again.

Sometimes a second or third treatment may also be needed for the desired results.

PlexR is a very safe treatment with a low risk of complications. After treatment, crusting and swelling may occur on the treated areas.

Swelling can be reduced by cooling well. The scabs will fall off by themselves after some time. It is important not to remove them yourself to avoid scarring.

Pigment changes are most common after a PlexR treatment. This can manifest as light or dark discoloration. This is often temporary but can very rarely be permanent.

Also, the skin is red/pink after the treatment. This is new skin and will naturally color back with the skin. During this period the skin is sensitive to sunlight. Be sure to protect the skin with an SPF.

Other side effects after PlexR treatment may include scarring, allergic reaction and viral infection (cold sores). With proper pre-treatment and post-treatment, the chance of side effects is very low.

After a PlexR treatment, you will be less presentable. This is because of the temporary swelling and scabs on the treated areas.

If you have had eye treatment, you may have reduced vision in the first few days after the treatment due to swelling. Should you have a job that does not require you to be presentable you may be able to return to work immediately.

PlexR is a safe treatment that works in the superficial layers of the skin. As a result, there is no chance of scarring after well.

One disadvantage of the PlexR is that not all areas can be treated. PlexR is a time-consuming treatment that requires larger areas to be split into multiple sessions.

In addition, pigment discolorations can sometimes occur. These are often temporary in nature may very rarely be permanent.
