Wrinkle treatment

Starting atage 30, your skin makes less elastin. The result: sagging skin and more visible wrinkles. There are many different locations where you can develop wrinkles. The well-known crow’s feet, smoker’s lines, laugh lines, frown lines and forehead lines, for example.

Wrinkles can be treated in different ways, this depends on the severity and location of the wrinkle. The best known and most common wrinkle treatments are botulinum toxin and filler treatments.

In addition to these treatments, we also offer wire elevator and treatment with the innovative PlexR to remove wrinkles.

Problems such as unsightly wrinkles, an angry or tired look and an older appearance than actual age are effectively treated with wrinkle treatments from Ivy resulting in fresher looking and younger looking skin.

How do wrinkles form?

The appearance of wrinkles is a natural phenomenon of the skin, which is part of skin aging. From the age of 30, your skin produces less elastin and subcutaneous connective tissue. If your skin is exposed to the sun a lot and/or if you smoke, your body breaks down elastin and collagen even faster. The result: your skin slackens and wrinkles form.

Fighting wrinkles yourself

Through a healthy lifestyle and protection from sunlight (face cream with UV protection), you can slow down wrinkle formation somewhat. If there are already (fine) wrinkles, you can try the following products:

Creams with vitamin A: Vitamin A (retinol) slightly stimulates connective tissue, which slightly reduces fine wrinkles. Ivy clinics works with several brands such as Synergy Skin, MeLine and EmerginC that contain powerful ingredients to address wrinkles.

Creams with vitamin A acid (tretinoin): you should use these only by medical prescription. Vitamin A acid stimulates connective tissue and provides a slight exfoliation of the skin. With long-term use, wrinkles and blemishes may diminish. Often we do recommend using this along with other products such as a good scrub to remove dead skin cells, a serum and a cream to counteract the side effects of vitamin A acid. A cleanser that suits your skin is also a real must to make your skin more accessible to good products.

Wrinkle removal

There are several ways to remove wrinkles.

Botox treatment

We use this to reduce wrinkles that are amplified by muscle tension (frown lines, laugh lines, crow’s feet, bunnylines, chin lines). The doctor injects the botox into the facial muscles with a very thin needle. The effect lasts an average of 4 months. With more frequent use, the effect may last longer. Our doctors at Ivy clinics are happy to help you with sound advice on how to use botox against wrinkles.

Laser treatment against wrinkles

There are different types of lasers, which remove a thin layer of the skin. This reduces pigment spots, scars and also wrinkles. This is because the laser also affects the lower layers, strengthening the connective tissue.

Chemical peeling

A chemical peel involves using an etching liquid to remove part of the epidermis. At Ivy clinics, a variety of peels include glycol, trichloroacetic acid (TCA) and phenol. Before treatment, the skin is cleaned and degreased, then the liquid is applied with cotton swabs. This may involve a burning sensation. Depending on the application time, the in-depth effect can be well controlled.

Filler treatment

We reduce deeper wrinkles with fillers. The doctor injects the filler with an injection needle into the skin under the wrinkle, reducing or eliminating deeper lines. It also helps to inject the filler around some places deeper such as near the cheekbones. This strategic injection site results in less visible nasolabial lines and hamster cheeks, for example. There are different types of fillers. The doctors at Ivy clinics will be happy to advise you which filler is right for your wrinkles.

Sometimes it is useful to combine several treatments. By doing so, a more optimal result can be achieved. For example, a laser treatment for fine lines, a botox treatment for dynamic lines and a filler for a very deep wrinkle or fold.

Ivy clinics works with different types of fillers. Such as Stylage or Belotero brand hyaluronic acid, and Radiesse brand calcium hydroxylapatite. The latter is a collagen stimulating filler. Not every filler can be injected in every place. For example, a thicker filler is placed on the cheekbones than in the lips or under the eyes. Therefore, the doctor chooses which filler is best for your problem.

After determining together where best to place the filler, the doctor or assistant cleans and marks the skin. Next, the filler is strategically injected to make the best use of the purchased syringes. The treated area is then massaged to sculpt it.

As one ages, it is increasingly difficult to compensate for volume loss with the administration of a filler. In some cases a facelift will be more effective. Should this be the case for you, we will certainly advise you honestly about this in a free, no-obligation consultation.

You can achieve many different results with fillers and botox. Below we list some of them.

Improve cheekbones and cheeks

In many people, volume loss is the main cause of facial aging. The loss of subcutaneous fat and changes in bone mass alter certain proportions of the face. Gravity does not contribute positively to this either.

During the intake interview, the doctor will work with you to look at your face and recommend what is an appropriate treatment for you. It is important to clearly indicate what bothers you. Depending on the amount of volume loss, the doctor can give an indication of how much filler is needed.

When you apply fillers to the cheekbone, you automatically see a positive effect on depth of the nasolabial fold and on sagging hamster cheeks. So often it is a good idea to start a filler treatment by reconstructing the cheekbone.

When there is a lot of volume loss in the cheeks, you could also fill the cheeks with fillers. These are best inserted with a cannula. This is a blunt needle with a hole on the side at the top. Keep in mind that it often takes several syringes to create more volume on the cheeks themselves.

Nose-lip crease

A nasal lip crease is the line that runs from the side of your nose to your lips. This line gets deeper as you age. The nose lip crease can cause a tired appearance. Changes in the face are mainly related to the decrease of volume in the face. For example, the fat compartments on your cheekbones are very heavy. As you age, your skin will become saggier, resulting in the famous nose-lip crease and hamster cheeks. Gravity plays a role in this as well as the decrease of hyaluronic acid, collagen and elastin.

The most ideal solution for this is to restore the V-shape in your face (which gives you a youthful appearance) is by giving your cheekbones more volume. Is this not enough? Then the nasolabial fold or hamster cheeks can be treated separately. External influences can have a negative effect on your skin, causing wrinkles and lines to appear more quickly. You can think of smoking, alcohol and lots of sunlight. So keep this in mind.

Do you find the nasolabial fold disturbing? Our doctor will gladly advise you how many fillers and which fillers are needed to make your nasolabial fold less deep. For many people 1 ml of filler is sufficient, but if the fold is very deep we recommend more ml of filler. Optionally, you can also build this up.

Chin wrinkles and pits in the chin

A chin wrinkle is the line you see in the skin of your chin. It is usually located just below the lips. In some people it is barely visible, in others it is a deep wrinkle. It depends on the degree of skin aging and muscle activity in your chin. People with strong facial expressions tend to have mimic wrinkles more quickly, such as the chin wrinkle and the frown wrinkle.

Also, when those muscles are tightened, you can see a kind of dimple forming in the chin. You see this with names when someone talks. Many people don’t like this very much.

The causes of a chin wrinkle are skin aging and frequent tightening of the muscles in this area. Skin aging is a natural process that results in wrinkle formation. Your skin becomes less elastic due to the reduced production of elastin and collagen. This causes your skin to struggle more and more to spring back into its original position. This causes facial wrinkles. The chin wrinkle is one of them. At what age you get wrinkles depends on many factors. For example, your gender, lifestyle habits and hereditary factors affect the formation of wrinkles.

Filling the chin wrinkle can be done with us in different ways. It depends on the severity of the wrinkle. Botox shuts down the activity of the muscle so that the wrinkle cannot worsen. It also makes those crazy dimples and pits you see when you tighten these muscles a whole lot less. If the wrinkle can already be seen deep in your skin, then treatment with fillers is recommended to fill it in.

Even the chin itself can sometimes be made more beautiful in line with the rest of your face by giving it a little more volume. Although you would not think it, a shot of fillers in the chin can beautify your appearance considerably. Our doctors and cosmetic consultants will gladly advise you which treatment suits your wishes and of course also your budget.

Laughter lines

Laugh lines are the wrinkles that form in the area you tighten when laughing, especially next to the mouth. Frequent tightening of these muscles causes scars to form in the skin; these are the laugh lines. Under the influence of skin aging, the skin does not always “spring” back. You may be very bothered by these wrinkles. Perhaps it gives you an older look or gives you a different facial expression. Fortunately, there are plenty of options for treating laugh lines.

Everyone faces the process of skin aging from about age 30. This is completely natural and unfortunately has effects such as sagging, falling skin and wrinkles. Laugh lines are also caused by the decrease of elastin and collagen in the skin. In addition, it is good to know that a laugh line is a mimic wrinkle. This wrinkle is caused by the frequent tightening of a muscle; the skin no longer has the resilience to spring back after laughing. A frown line is also such a mimic wrinkle. So when the wrinkles are not yet too deep, you see these wrinkles only when you laugh or when you frown. Only when they become so deep that they are really damage to the skin do you see the wrinkles even at rest.

Ivy clinics is happy to help you make the right choice for your problem.
Laugh lines are not very easy to treat. You can’t stop the muscles with botox because then you won’t be able to smile anymore. And when you inject fillers into these dynamic wrinkles, your strong smile muscles will keep trying to push them away, causing them to break down faster. Therefore, a more superficial filler injection is best, or perhaps a laser treatment to strengthen and tone the skin.

Filling marionette lines

Unfortunately, as you age, more and more lines become visible in the face. All these lines have different names.

Marionette lines are the wrinkles that run from the corner of the mouth to the side of the chin. They cause one to show a somewhat sad or worried facial expression. These marionette lines are created by gravity as one ages. Fat decreases in the cheeks causing the skin to sag slightly. You can treat these lines in several ways.

Treatment with a filler
Treatment with botox

In an intake consultation, the doctor at Ivy clinics will look at your face with you and recommend treatment. Treatment with fillers consists of superficially filling in the marionette lines. The treated area is then massaged to sculpt it. In many cases, treatment of the marionette lines is combined with treatment of the nasolabial fold. And with the lifting of the corners of the mouth giving the mouth a more cheerful appearance.

In some cases, it is also advisable to administer a small amount of botulinum toxin (popularly called botox) into the muscles that help cause these lines.

Upper lip wrinkles

It’s part of aging, and in time, everyone gets it: wrinkles around the upper lip. As normal and natural as this “phenomenon” may be, these wrinkles can really bother you.

There are several reasons why you get wrinkles. The most common, of course, is old age. From the age of 30, your body produces less collagen, causing wrinkles to develop. Also, the elasticity of the skin decreases causing your skin to sag. But sunlight, smoking and stress also cause wrinkles. Do you want to prevent wrinkles in your upper lip as much as possible? Then make sure you maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Wrinkles in the lips are also called lipstick lines, smoker’s lines or kissing lines. Wrinkles in the upper lip can be fine, but deep wrinkles can also mar the skin above your upper lip. Fine wrinkles are less than 1 millimeter deep.

Wrinkles in and around the upper lip can be treated in several ways. For example by means of a laser treatment (the CO2 laser from Ivy clinics is preferred). But you can also opt for treatment with an injectable such as botox or a filler. A combination of both may also be necessary to achieve the desired results. Which treatment is most suitable to remove the wrinkles in your upper lip, the doctor or cosmetic consultant will tell you during the free, no-obligation consultation.

Frown lines

Frown lines occur because you regularly, consciously and unconsciously tighten your muscles. Frown lines are best seen when you look angry or when you look very concentrated.

Called dynamic wrinkles, these wrinkles are caused by muscle tension. The best way to solve these dynamic wrinkles, or frown lines, is with 5 or 6 small injections of Botox. Botox ensures that the stimulus transmission from the brain to the frown muscles is no longer good. The muscle is no longer listening, so to speak, and as a result you can temporarily, on average 4 months, no longer look angry.

This way, time actually stands still and you can’t cause wrinkles by looking angry. If there was already a deep furrow without botox it will probably diminish slightly but not completely disappear. Then there is the possibility of injecting a very thin filler to dent out the frown line, so to speak. At Ivy clinics we are happy to advise what is best for you.

Forehead wrinkles

Forehead wrinkles also fall under dynamic wrinkles. On the forehead there are two large muscles that help you when you want to look surprised. That’s when horizontal lines form in the skin on your forehead. Therefore, these dynamic wrinkles, or forehead lines, are best resolved with about 8 small injections of botox. Botox ensures that the stimulus transmission from the brain to the forehead muscle is no longer transmitted properly. The muscle no longer listens, so to speak, and as a result you can temporarily, on average 4 months, no longer look angry.

Because of this, the acne may come back after stopping the treatments. However, maintenance treatments are possible to keep the acne calm and under control.

Crow’s feet

Finally, crow’s feet. These also belong to the dynamic wrinkles and are best treated with botox. The crow’s feet are seen when you squeeze your eyes together as if looking into the sun. Be careful because the muscle that causes these crow’s feet is a round muscle that runs all the way around the eyes.

To treat crow’s feet with botox, we can only prick the sides, otherwise you might get ugly puffiness. We also prick outside the edge of your bone. Because of this, a treatment with botox for crow’s feet looks very natural. The lines are still slightly visible (to the edge of your bone) but no longer run all the way to the hairline.

When your crow’s feet no longer disappear completely with botox alone, you can choose to have them filled with a very thin form of hyaluronic acid fillers. Fine lines are also well treated with lasers.

There are often many roads that lead to Rome, which is why we at Ivy clinics always offer a free consultation without any obligation. During this consultation, we will work with you to determine which treatment is best for you and which will give you the best results, all within your budget.

We are happy to advise you on this and can tell you a lot about all types of wrinkles because there are many more possibilities than described here such as the wrinkles around your nose (the bunnylines) or filling the temples (temporals) with fillers. We always look at the total picture so that with as few means as possible and a natural result we can give you back the appearance you are looking for.
