Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, is one of the most requested minor surgical procedures in the Netherlands. With age, many people experience drooping eyelids or puffiness around the eyes. These issues can cause visual obstruction, a tired appearance, or discomfort.
At Ivy clinics, we perform both upper and lower eyelid corrections. Our doctors are experienced in cosmetic and functional blepharoplasty. Patients rate Ivy Clinics with an average of 9.4/10, and 98% would recommend us to others—indicating consistent satisfaction and trust.
We perform upper eyelid surgery at all Ivy clinics locations: Amsterdam, Amstelveen, Den Bosch, and Westervoort (near Arnhem). Lower eyelid surgery is available at our Den Bosch and Westervoort clinics, where we have specific surgical facilities.
Our medical team provides honest advice—even if no treatment is necessary. We value accessibility, medical quality, and natural-looking results as our core principles.

More than 1,500 eyelid corrections per year
Treatment by highly experienced doctors
Clinics in four citiesDuring a completely free intake interview we tell you everything about the procedure, what to expect, whether it hurts, how to deal with the aftercare, what you get from us to take home after the procedure and your eyelids are carefully assessed. This way we can show you what it will look like after the operation.
Of course, there will be plenty of time to calmly answer all questions. Are you very scared? Please feel free to indicate that, and we will dwell on it a little longer, and try to alleviate the fear. It’s also nice to know so we can take it into account during the procedure.
For a more detailed description of the treatment, see the specific pages for upper eyelid surgery and lower eyelid surgery.
An upper eyelid correction is performed under local anesthesia. Prior to the procedure, photographs are taken for the medical record. Then the doctor draws off the excess skin and checks for accuracy.
This is followed by anesthesia. This is inserted (pricked) into the skin above the eyes. When the anesthetic has taken effect, the doctor starts cutting away the demarcated tissue. This is followed by electrical burning away (based on coagulation) of excess skin tissue.
If it proves necessary during the procedure, excess fat is also removed. After the upper eyelid correction, the skin is sutured with a subcutaneous continuous suture without knots. After closing the wound, an opportunity for cooling is given to reduce swelling.
You will not be allowed to drive yourself after the procedure, due to health and insurance reasons.
After 6 or 7 days, the sutures are removed. 3 Months after the procedure, we will see you again for follow-up check-ups.
A surgical lower eyelid correction can be performed in two ways. With only excess skin, a subtle incision is made at the lash line, after which fat and excess skin are removed. However, sagging muscle is often the culprit of (fat) puffiness. When this is the case, the muscle must be tightened by means of a canthopexy.
The procedure in brief:
You will not be allowed to drive yourself after the procedure, due to health and insurance reasons.
After about 7 days, the stitches and sutures are removed. 3 Months after the procedure, we will see you again for follow-up check-ups.
Eyelid surgery is very effective in relieving symptoms and giving you a fresh, youthful look. The results are visible fairly quickly.
Often after removing the sutures after 6-7 days, people are already very happy with their new reflection. However, there is still swelling and fluid around the eyes.
The best results can be seen three months after surgery. That’s why you are welcome for a follow-up checkup then. Post-op photos will be taken and compared with the photos before surgery.
In eyelid surgery, the wound is sutured with a subcutaneous continuous suture with no knots. The sutures are removed after 6 or 7 days. This is very easy because there are no knots. The suture can be pulled out in one movement. A lower eyelid correction may sometimes involve some support sutures that need to be cut.
For the first few weeks after treatment, the treated skin will be fragile and sensitive. It is not possible (and allowed) to participate in traffic immediately after treatment, so you should arrange transportation home. Even if you feel well, insurance wise it is not convenient.
