As you age, the upper eyelids may begin to droop as a result of skin aging. The skin loses its elasticity and the lifting muscle may lose some strength.
An upper eyelid correction offers relief when you suffer from drooping eyelids. Complaints may include reduced vision, feeling heavy and tired while rested, headaches and a gloomy appearance. You may also look more tired. This is another reason to have eyelid surgery. Not everyone experiences symptoms or is aware of symptoms that can cause heavy eyelids.
If you are familiar with these symptoms, an upper eyelid correction may be the answer. An upper eyelid correction is characterized as a minor procedure with a lot of impact.
At Ivy Clinics you can go for both an upper eyelid surgery as well as a lower eyelid surgery. Our doctors specialize in performing eyelid surgery. Treatment by highly experienced doctors
Clinics in four citiesDuring a completely free intake interview we will tell you everything about the procedure, what to expect, whether it hurts, how to deal with the aftercare, what you get from us after the procedure and the upper eyelids are carefully assessed. Based on the analysis you will receive a personal customized advice. We can also show you what you can expect from the upper eyelid surgery.
Of course, there will be plenty of time to calmly answer all questions. Are you very scared? Feel free to indicate it. Then we will think about it a little longer and maybe we can take away some of this fear. It is also nice for us to know this so we can take it into account during the procedure.
You can then decide if you want to have the treatment done for your symptoms.
An upper eyelid surgery is performed under local anesthesia by an experienced cosmetic doctor at Ivy clinics.
The doctor will accurately mark off where the excess skin tissue is that can be removed. This is checked before treatment is started. It is important not to remove too much skin because then the eyes can no longer close properly. But we certainly do not remove too little so that you can enjoy it for at least 10 years. And often longer.
The excess skin tissue that has been marked off is first meticulously cut away. After this, the excess skin tissue is burned away electrically. Small vessels that are still bleeding are closed by coagulation. This helps enormously in preventing bluishness. Of course you won’t feel a thing because of the anesthesia.
After removing the skin, the wound is sutured into the skin. This means you hardly see the sutures. The ends of the sutures are glued to the skin with a strip. It is important to cool immediately to prevent swelling as much as possible. We have special Ivy cooling goggles that you can take home with you.
It is best to schedule the first two days off in order to do a lot of cooling. You will also be given gauze pads because some wound fluid may leak during the first 12-48 hours. You can just dab this clean. To prevent too much crusting, we advise you to clean your eyes twice a day with gauze covered with boiled water. After two days you can resume a little action. Do watch out for heavy and pressure-increasing activities during the first few days.
After 6-7 days, the sutures are removed. This is done in no time. We always recommend a scar cream and have several options in this at the clinic.
Alhydran without SPF (15 ml) from €20.95 and with SPF (30 ml) for €39.95. Our assistants have other creams that are perfect for treating scars. Feel free to ask about the possibilities.
Upper eyelid surgery is a relatively simple surgical procedure and is performed by a highly experienced cosmetic doctor.
Be prepared to be unrepresentative for the first week. The wound and scar need rest to heal and straighten properly. For the first week(s) after the procedure, it is advisable to take plenty of rest. This is to prevent swelling and complications.
What is part of a normal recovery:
As with other procedures, complications can occur. A subsequent bleeding or infection may occur. However, this is rare.
When problems arise, we can be reached 24/7 at our emergency number. Please do not hesitate to call us, if only to reassure you should there be any concerns.
Possible complications:

The results are usually long-lasting and visible for years.
However, the surrounding skin may continue to sag, which may require another correction several years (10-15 years) later to maintain the ultimate result.
Prices for upper eyelid surgery at Ivy always include aftercare package and checkup.
