Lipofilling

Lipofilling treatments are temporarily not being performed at Ivy clinics.

When the skin shows deep wrinkles or unevenness, or when a face takes on a sunken appearance due to a decrease in volume, lipofilling is a solution that offers long-term results.

Lipofilling is the removal of body fat cells that are then purified and placed back under the skin to create contour, volume and skin quality improvement. The idea behind it is to restore volume through loss of fat that you lose as you age. So the fat that was naturally present is placed back with this method, providing a natural end result.

The great advantage is that it uses the body’s own fat cells, making the method completely safe and also providing very long-lasting results. Fat cells live for about 8 years, but stem cells – which represent a unique, proprietary repair system and are located between the fat cells – also prolong the effect by replacing old fat cells with new fat cells. Using the body’s own material prevents an immune response.

Lipofilling, thanks to further developed techniques, has become a treatment that is gaining ground within the cosmetic industry. This technique is now considered the ideal technique for returning volume but also suppleness and health at the cellular level.

When is lipofilling an appropriate treatment?

Lipofilling can be used for a variety of applications, including the face, where hyaluronic acid fillers are often used.

During aging, a number of changes take place. Gravity does its work, causing vertical displacement, or droop, in the face, among other things. In addition, the face loses volume and the quality of the skin decreases; it becomes thinner, develops fine lines, becomes duller and less elastic and smooth.

Lipofilling is a method frequently used to restore volume to the face.

In brief:

  • The perfect natural filler and volume corrector
  • Short recovery period (1-2 weeks)
  • Little to no pain
  • Chance of complications nil
  • Result visible after 2 weeks, optimal result after 3 months

To qualify for lipofilling, it is important that you first be seen by the doctor to determine where possible fat can be removed and to indicate in which areas of the face this fat can best be placed back. Make an appointment for a free consultation!

The treatment step by step

The intake interview is the time when options are discussed. Your health situation and medical history are charted. We also take pictures for a clear before – and after result.

After this intake interview, it is possible to schedule an appointment for treatment.

Before the procedure, you sign an informed consent and go over final questions with the doctor. Together, you determine the area to be treated.

During the treatment, fat is removed from the body, using a technique similar to liposuction, but in this case with special instruments that are more subtle and leave the fat cells alive. In consultation, it is determined where this fat will be harvested, often it is removed from the waist, abdomen, thighs or inner knee.

A small incision is made in the indicated areas and anesthesia is inserted through a thin hollow cannula with a blunt tip. We let this take effect for a while and then we start removing the fat cells. The extracted fat is purified and separated in a specially designed system.

Live fat cells are evenly distributed drop by drop and inserted with a very thin cannula into the pre-marked areas. This is similar to a filler treatment.

During the intake interview, the wishes are discussed and the doctor makes an analysis of the face. Based on this, the options are discussed and the doctor gives an indication.

Here the doctor will explain exactly how lipofilling treatment works, what can be expected of the result and, of course, there is plenty of room to ask questions about the treatment process.

With lipofilling, the tissue deficiency is filled with the body’s own fat. Fatty tissue in the area of the knee or thigh is usually removed.

By injecting a special fluid, we prevent too much blood from being drawn in. The fat is cleaned in a lipodialysis system and is dosedly introduced at the discussed sites.

After treatment, you may return home.

Result

You can see lipofilling as a filler treatment only with your own fat. So this will also stay permanently, unlike fillers, and can’t hurt because the fat is your own, your body recognizes it.

Immediately after the treatment the volume is already visible, however, some of the fat cells will not survive so the volume decreases after a few days. How much this decreases is different for each person. The final result is visible after about 3 months. Of course, the aging process continues, and volume will also disappear again as would otherwise be the case.

Depending on the degree of volume loss and result, more treatments are needed. Our advice is to keep a period of at least 6-8 weeks between each treatment.

After the treatment, the incisions made to harvest the fat are taped with band-aids. It is helpful if you bring tight clothing for after the treatment, such as tight leggings or pressure clothing, to keep the bandages and plasters in place and give pressure to the wounds.

For the first few days after treatment, anesthetic fluid may come out of the holes where the fat was removed.

Because everyone is different and every skin reacts differently, no one’s recovery runs the same but sometimes you may feel a little tired and you may experience soreness in both the area where fat was removed and the area where the fat was injected.

You may also experience swelling and bruising; these are usually much less after a week.

After treatment, it is wise to take it easy. We advise you not to exercise or do heavy work for 2 weeks. Showering is allowed, visiting sauna or swimming pool not for 2 weeks.

Although complications are very rare, it is good to stay alert for possible complications such as infections, allergic reactions, thrombosis, bleeding or wounds that heal with difficulty.

Normal symptoms that may occur are:

  • Swelling and bruising on the treated area
  • Leakage of anesthetic fluid where the cannula entered the skin

A less common or very exceptional complication is asymmetry in the final result. When this occurs, it is very easy to correct with a minor correction. This is not something to worry about and often disappears on its own.
