Many people suffer from unsightly vessels which can be found on the face but also in other areas of the body. The vessels can be perceived as annoying and people want to camouflage them.

Rosacea are small red blood vessels on the face. It occurs mainly on the cheeks, chin, nose, neck and/or décolleté.
The vessels have no important function in terms of supplying oxygen or discharging waste products. Therefore, rosacea can be treated without any problems. The vessel walls are weakened in rosacea. It often happens due to the aging of the skin.
Factors such as UV light, heredity, smoking, pregnancy, some medications or trauma to the skin can also aggravate rosacea.
Rosacea is a chronic skin condition recognized by diffuse redness. Flushing, bumps and pimples are also common with rosacea.
Rosacea is common in women and occurs between the ages of 30 and 50. About half also have eye complaints.
The cause is complex and, in addition, partly unknown. The skin barrier is disturbed, making the skin more sensitive to outside influences. The Demodex mite also plays a role.
This mite is present in everyone but in those with rosacea in much greater quantities. This can cause an inflammatory reaction. Rosacea has a number of triggers that can cause the skin to react more violently.
Triggers of rosacea are: UV light, production from daily life (coffee, alcohol, some teas, dairy products, soy and certain herbs), stress/emotions, harsh treatments, skin products containing alcohol/menthol, smoking and certain medications.
A spider naevus is easily recognized by a small red dot surrounded by flared vessels.
A spider naevus can occur at a younger age but usually disappears after puberty. There is also a greater risk for developing spider naevus during pregnancy.
After childbirth, these often disappear. A spider naevus occurs due to localized dilation of small blood vessels. Hormonal factors also often have a major role in its occurrence.
Cherry angiomas are small round bright red bumps on the skin. They are harmless but many people are bothered by them.
Cherry angiomas are also known as cherry warts or blood blisters and often occur at a slightly older age. Almost everyone at age 60 has one or more cherry angiomas.
The size can vary from spot to spot. On average, the size of a cherry angioma is between 1 mm and 5 mm and can be anywhere on the body.
A naevus flammeus, also called a wine stain, is a congenital vascular abnormality. A naevus flammeus is often localized in the neck or face. It is all dilated blood vessels together.
Over the years, this spot grows with you and will therefore become larger. It is also often seen that a naevus flammeus gets darker and thicker with age. The spot is often considered cosmetically disturbing.
Poikiloderma of civatte is a common skin condition in people in later life. The condition is also called erythrosis interfollicularis colli or solar neck.
Poikiloderma of civatte is easily recognized by an erratic reddish-brown discoloration on the neck, décolletage, ears and/or neck. The condition is caused by pigmentation combined with sun damage and skin aging.
Because of the red glow and vessels this also under vascular problems. White middle-aged women are especially affected by this.
A naevus of Unna, also called a stork bite, is a congenital vascular abnormality. A naevus of Unna occurs mainly on the neck. In a few cases, the condition occurs on the eyelids or forehead.
The spot has an irregular shape and a uniform pinkish-red color. This condition occurs in about 40% of newborns but often subsides after a few months.
Do you also suffer from those disfiguring vessels on the legs? Leg veins is a common problem. Women in particular are easily affected. The superficial leg vessels are red, purple or blue in color and look like stripes in the skin.
Leg veins often occur spontaneously but can also be caused by deeper varicose veins. There are also risk factors for developing leg veins namely: predisposition (heredity), pregnancy or a standing job.
Pressure on the capillaries can cause the vessel walls to sag and enlarge. This also causes the blood to stay in the vessel and not flow further. This creates the red/blue leg vessels.
For clearly visible vessels, the Nd:YAG laser is used. This laser emits a beam of light that heats the blood in the vessel to the point that the vessel is destroyed.
the body breaks down the residual vasculature on its own. As a result, the vessels will diminish and disappear.
For general or diffuse redness, the IPL can be used. Light flashes are used to heat the superficial vessels.
This heat will cause the vessel to break down and disappear. The IPL has a wider spectrum of radiation than the laser. This allows us to work a little more superficially, which allows us to nicely target diffuse redness.
The Thermavein is often used as a treatment for vessels. It is a highly effective, targeted and safe treatment for red vessels.
Couperose, spider naevus and cherry angiomas can be treated with this. With a very small pin, the vessel is pressed shut and a small amount of energy (4 mHz) is given. The heat causes the proteins in the vessel walls to stick together.
Then the vessel is absorbed and broken down by the body.
Are you bothered by the vessels and want them to be less visible. Then a good camouflage will suit you. Be sure to camouflage the skin properly, though, because some camouflages can clog the skin.
This is not conducive to the condition of the skin. Therefore, always use a mineral camouflage. The skin therapist explains which camouflage is right for you and does a color determination.
As you can read, there are several options and sometimes a combination of treatments is the best idea.
Ivy clinics therefore offers a free, no-obligation consultation with one of our skin therapists or cosmetic consultants to determine the best solution for you.
